Barnaby Friendship Garden Officially Opened
Crescent School marked the official opening of the Barnaby Friendship Garden on Friday 6 June with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Pupils and staff were delighted to welcome Mrs Tina Williams, along with representatives from the Friends of Crescent and Dave Dennington from the School Playground Company, for the official opening ceremony of the newly created garden.
The garden has been in use for several weeks now and pupils have been enjoying using the new area with its benches, commemorative tree and beautiful flower planters. It provides a quiet space where pupils can be calm together, spend time with their friends and remember their good school pal Barnaby, away from the hustle and bustle of the main playground.
Headmaster, Joe Thackway, began by remembering Barnaby and then thanked all those who had contributed to the fundraising for the garden. They included the Year 6 children, the Friends of Crescent and also the School Playground Company who kindly constructed the garden for the school.
Barnaby’s mum, Tina Williams, was delighted to cut the ribbon and declare the garden open with Barnaby’s fellow pupils blowing streams of bubbles to celebrate the opening in a joyful and magical way.
Mr Thackway, said, “The Barnaby Friendship Garden is already a popular playground spot. A beautiful green oasis where pupils can socialise quietly, build friendships, relax, read or simply have time to think. It provides a lasting memory of our much-missed school pupil and I know it will benefit the children for years to come.”
Representing the Friends of Crescent were Louisa and James Hosegood and Mary and Ash Beecham.
