Crescent Celebrates Chinese New Year
29 Jan
To celebrate Chinese New Year, on Wednesday 29 January, the children had great fun in assembly learning how the Chinese years got their names.
While Mr Thackway told the story of the Jade Emperor and The Great Race, 12 pupil animals all took their turn to cross the river, acting out their roles with some impressive drama skills. Mrs Woolfenden played the part of the Emperor regally and Juliette managed to finish in first place as the rat, following a neat little trick riding on the back of the ox.
Also in assembly, MingYi and Emily also showed us how they write their name using Chinese characters, pupils found out about fortune cookies from Jed and everyone admired the lovely lanterns Gloria had brought in. We finished assembly with a Chinese prayer for the New Year.
